Description

Below, dull orange brown, above brighter orange-brown.  Short tails. Usually perches in trees and sallies out for short flights. The only leafwing widely distributed in the United States.

Habitat

Open woods and overgrown field with trees; scrub.

Flight Period

Flying mainly March-October, this species overwinters as an adult.
