One of our largest satyrs, and like other satyrs, this dark brown species of grasslands and open grassy woods, flies with a characteristic bouncing trajectory. South of the black line on the map, most populations have a yellow patch on the forewing, while north of the black line, most populations lack these yellow patches.
A wide variety of grasslands, including prairies, meadows, coastal dunes and open grassy woodlands.
Mostly June-August, but May-September in some areas.
