Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

Description

One of the most glorious butterflies of the eastern United States.  This common yellow and black-striped swallowtail is large and widespread.  

Habitat

Open woodlands and adjacent areas, including suburban gardens.  Do attract them to your garden, try putting out aromatic oriental lilies in pots.  The swallowtails and the lilies, each by themselves are quite magnificent -- but together they are magical!

Flight Period

Throughout warm weather.

Caterpillar Foodplants

Tuliptree (Liriodendron tulipifera), Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) and others.
