Description

Meadow Fritillaries are lesser fritillaries -- larger than crescents but smaller than the greater fritillaries and flying on stiff wings.  

Habitat

Moist meadows and grasslands eastward; willow thickets in the West.

Flight Period

April-September.

Violets (Viola).

Other Notes

Usually present as a colony, rather than as a few individuals.  The population dynamics of this species are not understood.  It appears to be expanding in some parts of its range, while disappearing from other areas.
